Now that I think about it your right....

Not sure that it will make a difference, as the VR sensor is just a crude AC generator. I will rotate it before my final build though.

I dont know if i getting confused, but if the sensor is flipped around wont the edis be triggered on the rising edge and not the falling edge like it should? if this is the case, the system will still work, but timing will be of...........hmmmmmmmmmmmmm time for google lol i could be way off, in which case its just a polarity change (swap wires and retime it) i like the mounting with the tabs closer to the cover, because with mine i was worried the screw heads will come real close to the balancer, not that thats a major issue

Just wanted to say "Great work" . I can appreciate the thinking behind your design. Some of the similiarities to the turbo setup on my car are a little scary!

Great work and great effort, very well done.

Took the XD out on a track day last weekend at Mallala Motorsport Park.

First time ive ever raced a car on a track. Was a fairly weird experience having other cars all around you going flat out. Also takes a bit of bravery braking late into corners with a wagon that weighs in at 1.5 ton.

In practice I was out with a heap of faster cars. Renault Megane Sport, Peguot 205 GTI, Dodge Viper RT/10, Mad MX5's etc. In all the traffic (on my first lap of the track too lol) I managed a 1:57.3 which isnt that fast. By the end of practice I got down to a 1:47.5 which is getting better.

Racing is done in groups of 12 cars which grid up on the start line. You then start off in pairs and its a drag race to the first corner. There is about a 5 sec delay between pairs to keep all the cars apart (and not crashing in the first corner). I started dead last and I wasnt allowed to drag race as it was my first day out.

In front of me was an Alfa 2.0 Twin Spark something or other. Was great being at the back of the field as there was no traffic to contend with. I wound the old girl out as much as I dared. By lap 2 I had caught the Alfa on the main straight. Didnt have enough to overtake though, I was WAY WAY quicker on the straights, but the Alfa breaked late and turned in better.

End of the set I managed a 1:41 which was quicker than the Alfa in front of me, and about 4 other cars in front :hihi:

I then moved up to the next group of 11 cars, right at the back again!! This time I was allowed to drag at the start. I dragged off another Alfa 2.0 something or other with ease. Poor girl driving the car looked pretty unhappy she got beaten by a fat wagon with LPG stickers on all the windows. I then managed to lose her completely with some bravery on the back straight. Wound the wagon up to 100mph in 4th. Still had plenty of power to go, just ran out of straight, brakes, rpm and bravery. By this stage I was loving it.

In that set I got a 1:39.2 which is pretty respectable for the longest and probably the heaviest car out there.

Then came the night racing. Man I sucked at this. X series headlights really suck, couldnt see the turn in's for the corners and I didnt know the track well enough. Still pulled consistant 1:42's though, which isnt bad.

Car held up awesome. Was pulling 7psi all the time around the track, except for under brakes. No overheating or anything.

Got so many thumbs up for random people though the day, plus you could hear people saying "man how fast is that gas wagon" and then people replying "man thats a full sleeper, its got a massive turbo on it!!". Absolutely loved the day, will be doing it again.

Will get some pics up on thursday. My mate was the camera man, and I have to go round and pick up the photos.

Hehe, I will give it my best shot. Only got to get down to the 1:20's to get in the top 5 :yelrotflmao:

Fastest cars out there are: Birkin Clubman (DIY car, comes in a flat pack and you just add MIG, worst car ever in my opinion), Lotus Elise (awesome), Datsun 1600 with a fat turbo 13B rotary (that is a SICK car, guy drives it like he stole it too), VL commo sleeper, VH commodore bathurst style replica (also an awesome car, looks a treat) and a monaro or two.

Funnest car out there was a subaru impreza from the 90's, complete with turbo and MASSIVE rally mudflaps held up with chains. Was going to ask the guy if this race was a special tarmac stage of the WRC, but couldnt find him :yelrotflmao:

Thanks for the comments guys. I will be out again in october biggin up the X-falcon reputation :P

Headgasket is a permaseal. Its been on there for 40,000km. Didnt remove it when I did the turbo. Pistons are ACL stockers, same mileage.

Id say your problem is mixture/detonation related.

I spent a lot of time on my tune. The impco 425 is giving me perfect mixtures at all throttle load points. WOT 2500-4000rpm is spot on 14.5:1. I achieved this with a different diaphragm spring as well as the mixture screws. Only way to tune is to use a proper wideband like the wb02 kits, my original tune on a narrowband was awful. I watched the mixtures on the track whenever I could (have a wb02 display mounted near the instrument cluster).

Also I know my intake manifold gives great flow consistancy between the cylinders as its the same model aussiespeed one that was tested by xrglen in his 4-barrel manifold thread. I wouldnt think the EFI manifold would be too bad, but if your running lean at the top end even a slight inconsistancy would cause you dramas.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Wont be lowering it. Too many bumpy roads around my house, and im sick of hard riding cars.

Only improvement before next race will be an oil cooler. Turbo manages to heat up everything quite badly.....

Cant get the embedded youtube viewer to work, so heres the link (which has now made the embedded youtube thing come up... go figure..):

And yes... I did let that red mini beat me in the drag race. Hes a mate of mine and I agreed to let him go first as im not quick in the corners.... haha then he spun out...
