EY326 STRATOSPHERE GREY, EY277 VINTAGE BURGUNDY, EY426 ONYX BLACK, EY510 HERMITAGE, Z or 8 = Silver Fox Metallic, F = Vintage Burgundy. are some fully schweet colours, ive saw an XY painted in the Stratosphere Grey in an early 80s street machine mag, it looked so schweet.....and Silver Fox is what i want to paint my XF in the long run lol, aka when i have money....but my gf doesnt like the idea of fluro orange bf gt stripes up the side lmao.

Does anyone have any information about how to interpret the NZ assembled id plates?
I have one with the following stuff on it.
chassis: MA54CR
model: 18937
drive: 2 (huh?)
engine: F (XD-era 4.1 iron head motor from the information above)
trans: B (3 speed floor shift auto)
axle: - (blank space)
trim: W
paint: 82 EV
svc: CR

I'm not too sure what to make of it. The trim code appears in the above information as being an XF Wedgewood spec, which is a bit inconsistent with the engine code. The paint code also makes very little sense. As for "scv", well that's anyone's guess! It would appear that NZ used different codes to the ones on Australian assembled cars, but what the codes mean I don't know. I'm also a bit suspicious that this plate may not actually belong to the car it's on, so any help in interpreting the model information and the paint/trim codes would be very helpful.

Do the code stamped on body on left front shock tower match plate.
What is above is not all the code for paint and trim, not sure what svc is never seen it before.
MA would be NZ assembely line
54 is model, C is year, R is month of build date, thats is it goes the same as AUS codes

Thanks for that.
The codes above are all that there is for the paint (82 EV) and trim (W), there are no other numbers or letters. Interesting that C=1984, and R=Feb. There is no build date on the plate. The car it's on is registered in NZ as a 1983 XE Farimont Ghia. The body is definitely an XE, and the number stamped into the shock tower might match the plate, however it doesn't look like an original number, since the letter and number stamps used don't look the same type as other original factory ones, and the characters are all wonky and uneven.
As far as I have found out so far, Ford in NZ used to assemble cars in Lower Hutt and Auckland
I will post a photo of the plate, but perhaps this is now a topic for a different thread so as not to clutter up this one?

Definitely something fishy going on.
If M= country of origin (M isn't listed in the other forum)
A=assembly plant (Probably Auckland, NZ)
Now it get's real interesting. 54 is a XL Cortina Wagon with a bench seat!!! Which is funny because if the 54 was a cortina, then I would expect the country of origin to be a C??
Think I will do a bit more digging with the NZ motor vehicle registration dept, and find out what chassis number the car is registered to...

I did a hunt through the motor vehicle registration folks, and the chassis number (MA54CR....) matches the car's registration as a 1983 Fairmont Ghia. That chassis number was first registered in March 1983, so the car would have to have been made before then.
I think it's safe to conclude that New Zealand assembled cars have a different system in their identification codes from those manufactured in Australia. Next stop is Ford NZ to enquire about the cars history. I'll post any useful codebreaking information that I can squeeze out of them!

Hey guys. Been at the owner of this sweet XE SPack for 10 years and finally got him to sell it to me! Yay! Anyway I'm trying to work out what options it came with. Codes are 29,31,34. I THINK 31 was Police/Taxi kit but what did u get with that option? Dont know about other options so any help would be tops. Car is 83, EFI and 4 speed. Sorry about all the questions, I'm a newby. Cheers.

They are ADR's, have a look here;

You will need to get in touch with Ford to ascertain your vehicles options.

I thought police was option 54 but it says (passing beam headlamp for mopeds)
Option 50 looks more correct with (Front fog lamps)
The tags were stolen off my mine and cant remember the code

Don't get confused between ADR codes, as listed on vehicle identification plate and option codes, as shown on build sheet only.

I'm not sure about option 54 overall but for the XB it was for the Globe alloy road wheels.

OK. If I remember rightly but I could be wrong. With the 29,31,34 I think there was 54 or 50. It could have been stamped in diff spot not sure
