ok got 2 questions, my new fairlane is a jh meaning its queensland built, but is this the whole car or just the motor? didnt know there was a factory in qld

and secondy my lane is a marquis according to the plates, so is that the equivilant to a fairlane ghia? did they have fairlane ghias in zk's or is that jsut a newer thing, it has most of the options so im guessing its the ghia equivilant?

can anybody answer these?

My XF Spac going by this is a Falcon 500 aswell. Im going by what meethed said cause i reckon its quite possible that ford where a bit lazy and never came up with a new number for the spac espeacilly since Falcon 500 werent being made anymore they prob jus thought to use the 500 id no. instead for the gettin a new one for the spac models.

What the hell, checked my normal sedan and going by codes thats a Falcon 500 aswell. I opened up the link to the other Veichle Identafaction codes to check my engine & trans no. For engine on both my Spac and Falcon the letter was E which isnt even in the list of codes for engines. On top of that My Paint code on my XF is Z and that isnt on the list of paint codes either. Since i had too touch up my car i know the colour is stark white.
What going on do i even own a ford....?

I would say your car was originally a NSW car as they had a slightly different emissions setup in them which had a different code for the engine ie. in the XE's the NSW 4.1l motor had a code 'X'. which was different to all other states.
The same with your paint code, 'Z' is stark white and is a XE colour.
Is yours an early XF by any chance, late 84 early 85?

Just adding on from the above, a bit more info of codes and tags.

To clear a few things up, all ZH Fairlane Marquis' were denoted as JG63 or JH 63 (post April 1978 for the H cars). Upon release of the ZJ, the Sportsman took the the code of JH63 (no Fairlane Ghia's at the timeand same applies to the ZK's as well). Same again to all XC Fairmont GXL's. That is, they were all JG32 and then upon release of the XD Fairmont Ghia, the 32 code was translated to these cars. With respect to engines, namely Clevelands, they were all made in the Geelong Engine plant and then transported to the Eagle Farm plant where all of the Fairlanes and LTD's were being made.

The VIN on the engine or car will be 6 characters long, for example, JG63UM or AL1JYM. These are decoded as follows;

First character = Product source.
A = USA, C = UK, J = Australia and S = Japan. Am not sure what U is, could be Thailand, Korea or the likes. At any rate, this code shows up for the Laser’s, Meteor’s and Telstar’s.

Second character = Assembly plant.
G = Broadmeadows - (Passenger), L = Broadmeadows – (Truck), H = Brisbane and K = Sydney

3rd & 4th characters = Body Series
See below

5th & 6th characters = year and month of production respectively

Therefore;
A = USA source
L = Assembled at Broadmeadows Truck plant
1J = F100 4x2
Y = 1981
M = March

Typically, most A and C sourced cars came in the form of parts manufactured overseas and then fully assembled here in Australia e.g. F Series, Escorts & Cortina’s.

The complete list of Body Series codes are shown below.

Not necessarily. SPack doesn't have it's own model code like Falcon, Fairmont etc, all SPacks are based on JG23 (Falcon GL) but it's the option code that defines whether it's an SPack or not. The option code is not printed on the ID tags.

it would probably be the whole car there was an assembly line at broadmeadows qld up until 86 possibly 87 a mates old man use to work there and was remenising when he saw
my first xf had come from there. also wouldn't the marquis be equivalent to an ltd like an fe or something.

Ronny

JG23AT54876K the K is for V8

JG23AT54876C the C is for 6cyl

That is one easy way to tell if the car is a factory V8 or a 6cyl.
