Hi

I am doing a power window conversion to my xe and have come across a bit of a problem with the rear doors. when the car was resprayed the doors where replaced with xf gl? doors. the regulators where taken from either a zj or xd i cant remember but it was an older car. what i am trying to find out is the sheet metal or the regulators different on each model.

cheers

Apparently the XA,B,C and the Fairlane versions, the power windows had metal cogs and bearings as the later ones have plastic cogs and bearings. I found that the most common problem is the bearings get chewed up. What I have done in my many conversions is ether get a left rear door and replace it with the right front, the same with the other doors (just the motors, and why I use rear doors is coz they are least used.). Or the other thing I do if I cant get replacement motors is strip them out, clean them up and replace the plastic bearing with a metal ones and repack them with non petrolium based grease. I have done that in my ute and they have lasted 6years so far.

Hope this helps.

Yeah u should try drilling 3 1/2" holes in the door frame so that u can get to the bolts that hold in the regulator then it is an easy job.

If anyone is looking to overcome any electrical issues with the window motors i did a thread in the electrical forum which is a pretty easy solution to any wiring problems you might have.

It didnt seem to get any response which is strange because i would have liked someone else to figure this out for me as not being an autospark it was a major headache trying to learn it all on the fly.
