I thought we'd start a thread of gear ratios in different box's so people know what theyre putting in their cars. Actually i wanted to know what the difference was between the 0506 that i took out of my car and the T5 i just put in but i thought a reference thread would be a good idea as it would help out more people.
I'll kick it off with a quote
For the T5 gearbox...
1st is 3.47:1 50 klm
2nd is 1.96:1 85 klm
3rd is 1. 26:1 130 klm
4th is 1.00: 1 170 klm
5th is 0.79: 1 175 klms
reverse is 3.37:1
Thanks NIGHTHAWK. thats the only info i could find already on the forum. anybody got a workshop manual?
Post auto ratios too guys...

cant elaborate more ford_man? which 4speed is which? casting numbers or engine/trim combo? or compliance plate code?
what is the diff ratio used with a 3 spd auto . I have an xf ute with auto 3 spd & 3.23 diff .

i dont understand the question. its not front wheel drive so the diff and gearbox are seperate items. you can have whatever diff ratio with whatever gearbox you like.
if your speedo is out you need to replace the speedo drive gear.

I thought there were different diffs for auto's and manual , ute and sedan . my ute sounds like it's reving it's balls off at 100km tacho reads 3000rpm , is that normal . Maybe I've just got used to late model cars .

what ratio are you running george?

as i said i got the gear from ford, went to put the tailshaft in, and the speedo gear had caused the output shaft to sit off centre, ripped the speedo gear out and the tailshaft went in with no issues

does changing diff ratios put the speedo out? never thought of that. Might be a stupid question, not even sure exactly how the speedos work

28-11-2007, 06:42 PM
yeh will put speedo out if u change diff gears
drew442
28-11-2007, 07:33 PM
so the speedo gear physically doesn't fit?
are they giving you the gear for the right box? what box is it?
maybe best to ask KEAS who i assume built the box?
NO.PSI
28-11-2007, 07:38 PM
I need to get the right one as well.
with my 3.89 ratio, my speedo sits on 160kmh's when i think i'm doing 100.

yeh right gear for the right box, its a c9, paul had to get the gears from america, and its hard to get in contact with him also

you can adjust it electronically too.
http://jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=KC5435&CATID=&keywords=speedo&SPECIAL=&form=KEYWORD&ProdCodeOnly=&Keyword1=&Keyword2=&pageNumber=&priceMin=&priceMax=&SUBCATID=
might be the go for both of you.

i actually got no speedo gear in it atm
eddie351gt
29-11-2007, 12:19 PM
so correct me if im wrong, if say the speedo is out by 20kmh (doing 80km while the speedo is showing 100), and the diff ratio has never been changed but the transmission was replaced, would i go for a speedo gear with more teeth? or less teeth? and is it one tooth more = 10km/h?
sorry my brains farted and i cant get my head around it at the moment lol
drew442
29-11-2007, 12:46 PM
you should have swapped the gear over when you swapped the box. get the ratio off the diff tag and go and order the right one.
eddie351gt
29-11-2007, 12:56 PM
they'll know the right one to suit?
i think its a 2.92 diff, Bw35 auto

T5 is not quite those ratios listed but close.
86 XF Series 2 onwards up until a ratio change around EB2 or later. XF/EA T5=
1st 3.50:1
2nd 2.14:1
3rd 1.39:1
4th 1.0:1
5th 0.78:1

Gday,
Just a question about speedo gears,
If I have a t5 with a 3.08 final drive, what colour speedo gear will I need (or part number), and where can I get it from?
Cheers
drew442
10-12-2007, 03:00 PM
thats not an xfalcon ratio, thats from an e-series yeah?
just ask at your local ford dealer, let them know the diff ratio and that its a 5 speed, i think the t5 and the btr 4 speed auto are the same speedo drive anyway.
the other option is the speedo kit from jaycar to adjust it without changing the speedo gear.

I think a 2.92:1 speedo gear with bigger wheels than normal like 17 or 18 in wheels would get your speedo fairly close to correct . 2.92:2 gear is purplewith 18 teeth . good luck son .

Yeah i think everyone is forgetting about tyre circumferance aswell
lowxdute
28-12-2007, 06:35 PM
Well when people state their setup they should include ORD. Standard tire/rim combos ran on xd/xe/xf's series is anywhere between 24.9-25.5" Running the correct cog with a tire/rim around 26" (eg; 235/60R15) should provide near spoton readings as ford speedos tend to read slightly under the limit.
ZAC
Are they the same speedo gears for cable operated speedos as they are for the electronic ones?
I have been thinking about getting a 2.77:1 for the XC but not sure they would have a speedo gear to suit.

trying to get my speedo right, thought this should be in here too so people can figure out what diff they're running if they have the same issue as me (i've got an eb diff but some soppy ****** decided to remove the id tags.. and i couldn't remember all the details from when dad rebuilt the diff for me)
thanks to lowxdute for providing the information
any chance of getting this thread sticky'd? i ask before, but it managed to stay close to the front page anyways :P
EDIT:
just got off the phone to tilfords, the item i need, being a 3.50:1 8 with 23 should make it Black, they're telling me that they're yellow.. so now i'm a little lost anyone have any ideas..? should be right if its got the teeth but.. thought i should double check anyways ;)
