Okay so there's p.s. (really light) then theres manual steering (reasionably heavy) then, theres my car! (Fukin heavy!!)

How do I go about lightening my steering w/e PS, because I decided I don't want it, because it is just extra power!

My bro said something about greesing them?

check your tyre pressure, you will find you can lighten it fairly easily by maintaining the correct pressures.

All tyres are at 30 PSI (2 Bar)

Umm...the tyres are 215 or something if that helps....yes it's been lowered and not sure about any work thats been done to it.

you can try 36 psi, you will notice the difference straight away. Just be careful in the wet as you will notice some understeer.

Here's a crazy idea. Put power steering on it.
Did you seriously remove power steering from your car just to gain a pooftenth of fcuk all?

Another thing you could do is to take your car to pedders or someone else that specialises in steering and suspension and get them to check your steering box, you might find that it just needs adjusting.

Also worn ball joints, bushes etc can also cause heavy steering as well.

Manual boxes need oiling once in the occasional blue moon
not sure what oil they take, probably gear oil?

Fit Power steer, you wont notice power difference, you will lose some turning circle, and oil leaks but Hey its a ford.

if the wheel align is out especially Camber and Caster it will be heavy too, i'll bet it just needs oil though

i think it goes in the plastic bolt on the steering box cant remember, been 10 years since i had an X sreies with no P/S

Hmm all good Idea's, I will consider the 36 PSI, but can't take my car anywhere as it is unregistered.

Oh and, I didn't take ps off for more power! It was never on! And Falcon's are usualy lighter w/ out ps so I don't want to have it installed anymore. Besides, if I put in ps there'd be a holden better than mine!

???? lighter? you mean car weight? or steering weight? lol
and i dont get the holden comment

I mean steering lol.

Any my bro told me there was a holden with 1 more kw of power, more torque (but its holden they don't know what to do with it! :D) and anyways, if I put a ps pump on it'd drain power, and the holden would have more power than mine :( Btw the holden is v8!

DaveGod

HAHAHA! 1kw. Lol, you do know that there are other Holdens that will have more then just 1kw more power then yours? And adding power steering isnt gonna change that fact!

Lol, yes I know but hey, I can beat an 8! Besides, I don't want unnecesary power drains :D

I rarely see my brother, so I don't pay much attention to a little thing such as a holden!

lol, just put power steer on it, power steer is much lighter than manual steer, ive driven quite a few of both, manual steer is far heavier

which kinda makes sence ;)

Lol, nah I'm not putting power steering in, I just need to know how to fix my manual steering? Wether it be adjusting the steering box, replacing, greesing things, getting a wheel aligment w/e! I just need to fix my manual steering.

inflate your tyres, grease up all steering and suspension components and take it to a specialist to have a once over.
All else fails..... PUT A BIGGER F..KIN STEERING WHEEL ON IT

k then cheers.

i used to really really heavy m/s. just visually check the camber and if it looks excesive get it fixed, the camber will ruin your tyre economy and camber is related to castor thereofre excess castor adds to camber,

iv found that most people dont understrand whta camber is and dont ask so ill give a bsic description of how it makes streering heavier. its easy to c on go karts but when you turn the wheels due to steering angles and angles of suspension arms, hubs etc the wheels will actually try and lift up into the body. this prob isnt making sense lol but essentually when u turn the wheels and suspension try and lift the body on one side and lower on another to angle the body into the corner, the more castor u have the more weight u try and lift up which can be the biggest factor in haevy steering . makes handling alot better tho!

oh and a d,e,f 4.1 should be able to beat most 253 holden v8's,

Umm yeah I kind of get it lol.

Anyways, it needs a wheel allignment if thats anything relevant?

And thanks for the info!

VL V8 had 122kW as opposed to 121 in the EFI XF.

and lol@ saying you will CONSIDER putting correct tyre pressure in.
And refusing to put a power-steering box in..
And THEN saying you need a wheel alignment. x]

And the fact that I just realised this thread was started in April of 2007 :P
