G'day

Can someone please explain what pinion angle is and how it can be corrected when the car has been lowered.

Cheers

I'll have a crack.

Pinion angle is the angle of your pinion input compared to say, horizontal.

Changes in ride height might alter that angle away for optimum.

My car is significantly lowered, and there's clearly impact between the drive shaft and driveshaft tunnel.

I've heard of a mod where you swap the standard XE/XF upper control arms for EL control arms, which are 20mm shorter. This has the effect of "rotating" the diff forward and improving pinion angle. Going to try it myself.

Thats what i was thinking about, if the diff is rotated it should correct the angle. The idea of the el arms makes perfect sense, one problem, wagons have leaf springs.

My idea was that i could get my engineer mate to make me a set of lowering blocks that have an angled base on them, but i'm not sure if it will work.

I'm also thinking that resetting the leaf springs would correct this aswell, but can someon eplease confirm.

We did the same thing at work with my boss's 67 mustang, worked perfect, just gotta be carefull of the wedges sliding out, we notched ours..

I wasn't gona make wedges as this would create a dangerous situation. I'm talking about taking a 2.5" lowering block and shaving it to suit the angle that i need. That way the bolts should still be able to provide the same holding pressure.

yeah see we didn't use lowering blocks.. would look quite out of place on the car.. but wat you said should work fine, just make sure you shave both sides the same..
