when i bought my xe, it had the exhausts dumping before the diff. sounded tough, but a no no for the street, so i got them joined into one and out the back of the car. they were routed over the diff.
since then i have had a nine inch installed and with the increased size and location of the housing it now hits the exhaust going over sharp bumps and is slightly pushing it in. and i was hoping to go lower in the rear. it does not sound that flash when it happens either.
my question is, is it legal for the pipes to go under the diff, hence leaving more room in the diff area? then i could also have the pipes arranged so they can be unbolted at shows or at home.
thanks

They won't work going under the diff - too little ground clearance and you'll rip them off on any steep driveway.
I run a dump pipe in front of the diff (351C powered). When I have to get the car inspected for roadworthiness, I remove the dump turn-down that fits to the flange, and install a full length tail pipe that goes from the flange (just under my drivers seat), over the diff (BW 8.75"), and out the standard exit spot on the rear lower panel. It mounts to the standard factory hangars that are all still in place. Takes me about 20mins. Maybe you could do something like that? After all, it's only illegal running open pipes if you get caught!!!

i see where you guys are coming from and i probably should have considered it more before i posted. i have seen some cars with this setup (admittedly not an xfalcon though) and was curious. better go talk to the exhaust man again me thinks and see if we can get the pipes away from the center of the diff housing.
lucky the car is on ramps already, i might go ponder it now! ::) :-\

i would't mind going your way logan, but it was damn loud in the cabin before i extended the pipes!
i still have to turn the car off to order at any drive thru's! oh and again for the person behind me ordering! muhahahah! ;D ;D ;D ;D i love it!

Suffice it to say that I don't really have conversations in my car, and I definitely can't order food at drive throughs!!

sorry, probably didn't explain that well. straight from the extractors to the diff, i think the call it h pattern because it has a joiner in between the two half way down. the mufflers are right before the diff with one on each side. the previous owner had dump pipe tips straight off the mufflers.
i got the continued but they join into one over the diff, so they come out the back as one. wasn't done from a performance standpoint, it was just to get it regoed again. never got to ask the old owner what he used to do but i suspect he had another bolt on piece to get it done.
